From executive summary: "This technical report contributes to the first phase of the study 'Planning a Future for Maine's Alewife Fisheries' led by the Alewife Harvesters of Maine (AHM) and conducted in collaboration with the University of Maine, University of Southern Maine, and the Penobscot East Resource Center (PERC). The first phase aims to identify issues of concern to key stakeholders for AHM to consider in planning the next generation of its work. This report summarizes outcomes of outreach and interviews with alewife harvesters, local government officials, and local stakeholders, such as local restoration leaders. We also engaged local government officials in municipalities without active runs and scientists and managers from the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR). We conducted 30 face-to-face and phone interviews between May and August 2013. The interview data is summarized in this report."
