SFCN SET Monitoring Standard Operating Procedure SET02: Mangrove Soil Surface Elevation Monitoring - Site Platform Construction and Installation—Version 1.00

Whelan KR and Prats MC. 2016. SFCN SET Monitoring Standard Operating Procedure SET02: Mangrove Soil Surface Elevation Monitoring - Site Platform Construction and Installation—Version 1.00. National Park Service

The following standard operating procedure (SOP) outlines the process of establishing one platform for South Florida / Caribbean Network (SFCN) mangrove soil surface elevation monitoring sites. Each site will monitor mangrove soil surface elevation and sediment accretion. The construction of the platform enables the deep rod benchmark—for the rod-surface elevation table (RSET) and other data collection plots—to be installed without disturbing the soil surface. These procedures follow the Southeast Coast Network SOP Salt Marsh Elevation and Vegetation Community Monitoring Site Platform Construction and Installation (Asper and Curtis 2012), which draws heavily on the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources coastal restoration protocol (Folse and West 2004).
