ABSTRACT: This report summarizes the current status of research focusing on the distribution of aquatic oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina and Tennessee, USA – specifically, the activities conducted by Mark J. Wetzel and M.A. Peggy Morgan during 2004. Surveys in the Park for aquatic oligochaetes and other macroinvertebrates funded by this award were conducted by Wetzel and Morgan on two occasions during 2004: 16-19 May and 18-22 October. During these two visits, we conducted surveys at 23 stream sites, three spring/seep sites, two terrestrial sites, and Cades Cove sewage treatment lagoon. Field reconnaissance of several additional sites in the Park, to be surveyed in 2005 and beyond, also was completed during these two visits.
