National Park Service. 2016. Guidance for conducting acoustic surveys for bats: Version 1 detector deployment, file processing and database version 1.7. Natural Resource Report. NPS/NRSS/NRR—2016/1282. National Park Service. Fort Collins, Colorado
This document serves as a preliminary (version 1) recommended practices guidance document for NPS staff and partners conducting acoustic surveys for bats. Updated versions of this document will be published as additional guidance and information becomes available and is compiled. The central component of this document is the user’s manual for the NPS Microsoft Access Bats Acoustic Survey Database version 1.7, which can be downloaded at https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2230347. Note that Access 2010 or more recent versions are required. This database has been through several previous versions, field tested, and updated. It is now ready for uploading, storing, and retrieving a broad range of bat acoustic survey data types. Guidance for bat detector deployment in the field is also included in this document. The information provided here is intended to assist users in a variety of bat monitoring activities including bat species inventories and local-scale habitat use surveys, and for contribution of data to broader regional and national initiatives such as the North America Bat Monitoring Program (NABat; Loeb et al. 2015) and the Bat Acoustic Monitoring Portal (BatAMP) program.
