WNS modeling predicts that WNS will infect the Glen Canyon region as early as 2021. Glen Canyon NRA (GLCA) is currently home to a diverse bat assemblage comprised of 19 species, 11 state special status species, 2 species affected by WNS, and 1 species on which Pd has been detected. Prior to the potential arrival of WNS in the southwestern U.S. (SWUS), it is important to document the status and distribution of bat species most susceptible to WNS. NPS staff and citizen scientists (CS) utilized A Plan for the North American Bat Monitoring Program [NABat] protocols to assess distribution, abundance, trends and threats of bat species within GLCA. This project promoted the WNS priority focus areas by assessing of bat populations (i.e. NABat mobile and stationary acoustic surveys) and enhancing WNS and bat related education and outreach (e.g. bat festivals and citizen science). Data collections contributed to a statistically robust data set which will enable researchers to make inferences about bat species distribution, abundance, and threats on a local, regional, and range wide scale.
