Catoctin Mountain Park Resource Brief: Orchids

Cunningham D, Gliss J, Matthews E, Nortrup M. 2016. Catoctin Mountain Park Resource Brief: Orchids. National Capital Region Network, Inventory & Monitoring

This brief describes a 2016 census of native orchids at Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park, in comparison to a historic study in the Catoctin Mountains. The original study, published by Knapp and Wiegand took place 1968-2008 and showed declines in 19 of 21 species. Sites from that study were revisited in 2016 to see if park deer management had allowed any orchid populations to rebound.
