Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of City Of Rocks National Reserve
2008-2011. Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of City Of Rocks National Reserve
This reference is an assemblage of field data collected as part the baseline vegetation inventory for the park unit. Typical files here are vegetation plot data, accuracy assessment data, field photos, PDF showing locations of vegetation plots and accuracy assessment data, and other data for this type. The sampling area included all of CIRO in addition to other public lands (e.g. Castle Rocks State Park) in the environs. Private lands were not visited. NMI field crews were trained and led by ecologists with experience sampling plant communities in national parks and other landscapes. The list of plant species (John 1995) ecological systems, vegetation alliances, and component plant associations prepared by UCBN provided a starting point for identifying and naming plant associations sampled in the field. The sampling goal was to collect between three and five classification plots in every vegetation alliance/plant association within the CIRO project area. However, some common associations were sampled more often and some rare types were sampled less often. An effort was made to achieve good spatial distribution of classification plots across the landscape and to capture the full range of variation of each plant association.
