Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument
2007-2012. Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument
This reference is an assemblage of field data collected as part the baseline vegetation inventory for the park unit. Typical files here are vegetation plot data, accuracy assessment data, field photos, PDF showing locations of vegetation plots and accuracy assessment data, and other data for this type. The classification data collection was conducted between May and September, 2008. Vegetation sampling included 361 classification plots and 70 observation points, which were sampled in April 2009 during vegetation map verification to support the photo-interpretation task. Field crews documented the vegetation plots as follows: 1) a species list was developed and recorded; 2) UTM coordinates, field note headers (Identifiers/Locators), environmental descriptions and a plot map were recorded; 3) UTM NAD83 X-Y coordinates and elevation were recorded both manually on the plot forms and stored as waypoints in the GPS receiver; 4) the UTM coordinates of the southeast corner of the plot was documented using another GPS receiver; and 5) four representative digital photographs were acquired facing the four cardinal directions (N, E, S, and W) from the edge of the polygon facing plot center.
