GLCA partnered with Grand Canyon Youth (GCY)and OARS to engage young citizen scientists (10 – 20 year olds) in acoustic bat monitoring efforts. In 2016 young sampled numerous sites along the Colorado and San Juan Rivers. GLCA staffers trained citizen scientists on acoustic bat monitoring methods and park staff processed, analyzed, and reported monitoring results. Collected data will contribute to bat conservation efforts. This project enabled young citizen scientists to work together to better understand bats, their habitats, and threats facing these key species.
