Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Capitol Reef National Park

2001-2009. Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Capitol Reef National Park

This reference is an assemblage of field data collected as part the baseline vegetation inventory for the park unit. Typical files here are vegetation plot data, accuracy assessment data, field photos, PDF showing locations of vegetation plots and accuracy assessment data, and other data for this type. Ecologists and photointerpreters worked together to identify plant associations for CARE and determine how best to map them using 1:12,000-scale, true color aerial photography and digital orthophotography. The team collected vegetation and environmental data from 243 vegetation classification plots and 17 observation points to supplement a vegetation data set of 305 plots sampled in 1986-1988. Assessment of map accuracy entailed sampling another 1313 plots. Fieldwork and mapping were completed between 2002 and 2005. Analysis of the classification plot data revealed 175 National Vegetation Classification plant associations, alliances, or park special vegetation types within the Park and environs. Thirteen associations were documented from accuracy assessment data, the remainder from vegetation plots, observation points, or field notes.
