Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Petersburg National Battlefield
2002-2006. Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Petersburg National Battlefield
This reference is an assemblage of field data collected as part the baseline vegetation inventory for the park unit. Typical files here are vegetation plot data, accuracy assessment data, field photos, PDF showing locations of vegetation plots and accuracy assessment data, and other data for this type. Ecologists from VADNH conducted field data collection in Petersburg National Battlefield in May and July 2002, July 2003, June through August 2004, June, July, and September 2005, and April and May 2006. The objectives of the fieldwork were to evaluate the formation-level line work and to collect information to help attribute and edit the line work to reflect the alliance level of the USNVC. Additionally, detailed quantitative data from the least disturbed areas of the park were needed to augment data available for a regional vegetation classification. All field data for quantitative vegetation samples were entered into the PLOTS database version 2.0 (NatureServe 2004) and are provided as a supplement to this report. Nomenclature follows the PLANTS 3.5 Database developed by the Natural Resource Conservation Service in cooperation with the Biota of North America Program (USDA, NRCS 2004).
