1999-2001. Field data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Walnut Canyon National Monument
This reference is an assemblage of field data collected as part the baseline vegetation inventory for the park unit. Typical files here are vegetation plot data, accuracy assessment data, field photos, PDF showing locations of vegetation plots and accuracy assessment data, and other data for this type. RSGIG ecologists conducted reconnaissance field surveys during which photointerpretive observation sites were sampled (in June 1999, May 2000, and June 2001). RSGIG ecologists photographed representative photosignatures and noted their position on the landscape, collected data at sites representative of distinctive photosignatures, and recorded field observations directly on Mylar overlays on individual aerial photos. In August-September 1999 and July-September 2000 classification relevé sampling was conducted throughout the entire WACA project boundary. A dichotomous key to the vegetation association/alliances as well as to the corresponding map classes was developed prior to the 2001 accuracy assessment field season. We used the key in the 2001 data collection for accuracy assessment. We made slight modifications before using the key in the second round of accuracy assessment observations collection during the 2002 field season.
