Gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) is an invasive insect native to Europe that consumes the foliage of 300 species of trees and shrubs, often causing extensive mortality. Since its initial introduction near Boston, the gypsy moth has spread to the west and south, now infesting much of Virginia. While eradication is not economically feasible, slowing the spread of the gypsy moth is both an attainable and economically beneficial goal.
