The primary purpose of this study is to elucidate the roles that hybridization plays in natural populations of Plethodontid salamanders, specifically in regards to current and future adaptation given climate-change. We will approach this question from a phylogeographic and genomic perspective, allowing us to describe contemporary adaptation in the context of complex evolutionary histories. This work will also provide the means to address the maintenance of range-boundaries in Eastern Plethodontid salamanders, despite the observation of widespread hybridization among taxa. This study will provide valuable insight both to biologists and conservation managers alike by providing an understanding of basic evolutionary processes as well as the consequences of climate-change on species range-shifts and resultant novel interspecific interactions. PI collected tissue from 970 individuals of three species in 2015.
