PI looked at six sites each at Clingmans Dome and Cataloochee to look at the effects of moisture, phosphorus, and/or nitrogen enrichment on algal biomass and species composition on seep walls. She found no effects of 10 weeks of weekly treatment on biomass accumulation or species composition across treatments, so at least on this time scale, seep walls are not as nitrogen- or phosphorus-dependent as was thought. High elevation walls were dominated by acid tolerant species. Low elevation sites had much more variety in species composition, implying other factors affect algal communities at low elevations.
