A Taxonomic and Nomenclatural Update of the Violaceae in the GSMNP

McKinney L. 2016. A Taxonomic and Nomenclatural Update of the Violaceae in the GSMNP

This survey documented 85 populations of violets in the park in 2007 at 32 different sites in Sevier and Blount counties TN and Swain County NC. Three new violets documented for the park were V. sororia var. missouriensis, V. sagittata var. ovata, and V. subsinuata. Viola tripartita, originally thought to be part of the park's flora is not as previous collection locations were outside of the park's boundary. PI would like in the future to study those species not encountered, including V. pubescens var. pubescens and V. sagittata var. sagittata.
