Forays with professional mycologists assisting were conducted in Cataloochee Valley, August, 2007, and at Purchase Knob, September, 2007. Conditions had been dry for most of the summer and the number of species found was considerably lower than in previous visits in other years. Forays were not conducted in the park in 2008 because of permitting problems, but were conducted in Cataloochee Valley on two occasions in 2009, June and September, in August of 2010, and in July 2011; at Cosby Campground in July of 2012; and at Purchase Knob in September 2011 and August 2012. Records were entered into the ATBI database, including a new park record Amanita in 2010, and two more new park records in 2012 (Russula amoenolens Romagn. And Amanita borealisoroa Tulloss nom. Prov., formerly known as A. ceciliae). At least 14 apparent new record species were detected in two forays in 2013 (Cataloochee Valley and Purchase Knob). In 2015, forays were conducted at Purchase Knob June and August) and Cataloochee Valley (July), locating 11 possible new park records.
