This project is attempting to refine our understanding of how atmospheric particles behave under different concentrations and humidity conditions and how that effects light scattering or haze. Results indicate that particles generally don't crystallize in the summer because the relative humidity is too high, and particles grow (and thus increase light scattering efficiency) in a smooth curve as relative humidity rises, indicating they are acidic. Winter sampling in 2008 found much lower concentrations of both organic carbon and sulfate particles, with ammonium almost completely neutralizing sulfates in the winter, compared to the summer sample when there was a lower ration of ammonium to sulfates.
