"PIs conducted inventory work of the insect group Auchenorrhyncha (leafhoppers, treehoppers, cicadas, spittlebugs, and planthoppers) in the park, with emphasis on the most diverse leafhopper subfamily, Typhlocybinae. They estimate that ~500 species of typhlocybine leafhoppers occur in the park and that about half of those can be documented given the current samples and proposed sampling in 2009. Approximately 500 specimens were prepared for identification--a labor-intensive task--from specimens netted, vacuumed, or attracted to mercury-vapor lights about the park, and from material collected previously at the Goshen Prong and Twin Creeks ATBI plots. Sixty-nine species of leafhopper were identified. Two were undescribed species (one quite distinct). Five species that were only known from the park from the 1940s were relocated. Two species known previously no closer than Ohio were collected as well."
