"Boletes are a group of fungi that produce mushrooms with pores rather than gills on the undersides of the caps. Boletes often play important roles as mycorrhizal symbionts with trees in forest ecosystems. The PI is studying the taxonomy and biogeography boletes, especially the genus Gyroporus. The park is of particular interest due to its varied terrain and its known examples of disjunct and relictual flora, which may correspond to disjunctions and refugia for the boletes. Thirteen specimens representing at least ten species were reported collected from the park in 2011. Four more were collected in July 2014."
