PI established 100 sample plots within the Mt. LeConte and Cades Cove quads in order to ground truth vegetation maps created from aerial photos. This work was supported in part by the Nature Conservancy for developing their vegetation classification system. Now part of an on-line database of vegetation plots, containing 23 plots on NC side of the park and 200 on the Tennessee side of the park. Mapping of LeConte and Thunderhead quad plots was conducted in 1997-1998.
