Excerpt from Abstract: "Upland second-growth forests located within the coast redwood region, specifically within Redwood National Park, exhibit a high potential value for restoration of old-growth associated characteristics. In 1979, Redwood National Park experimented with the use of a low-thinning on 25-year-old stands dominated by redwood (Sequoia sempervirens), Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), and tanoak (Lithocarpus densiflorus). In continuation of this study, [measurements were conducted] to determine the effect of post-thinning stand density on the structure and stand development of several late-seral forest characteristics."
