Visitor Use and Experience in Denali's Backcountry Pilot Study

Keller R. Visitor Use and Experience in Denali's Backcountry Pilot Study. Research Permit and Reporting System

Visitors to Denali's backcountry in the summer of 2016 were selected to participate in a pilot study with the purpose of informing an implementation of a large scale backcountry survey in 2017. Visitors were selected on two characteristics: 1) backpackers (overnight stays), with a permit; and 2) day hikers (some in campgrounds), without a backcountry permit. The purpose was to find out where visitors go, what they see and experience, and how they rate the Denali wilderness.
