Implementation of a Modified Small Stream Juvenile Salmonid Survey Design
Moyer CD. 1999. Implementation of a Modified Small Stream Juvenile Salmonid Survey Design. Humboldt State University
A project designed to modify the methods for estimating abundance of juvenile salmonids in small streams. This project measures shallow pools, riffles, and expands measurements to include habitat that cannot be effectively sampled, such as cascades and shallow, and unproductive riffles. It also lays out a new Deep Pool stratum consisting of pool habitat that is to deep to electrofish. It eliminates direct observation in riffles because there is an inconsistent relationship between dive counts and previous removal methods.
