Abstract: "A total of 161 salmonid spawning ground surveys were conducted in 27 randomly sampled stream reaches throughout the Redwood Creek basin between 11/11/2013 and 04/16/2014. Individual stream reaches were surveyed an average of 6 times over the study period with an average return interval of 23 days between surveys. Field staff observed 721 coho salmon, 1021 Chinook salmon, 70 steelhead trout and 285 unidentified live sh over the survey period. A total of 74 coho salmon,232 Chinook salmon and 37 unknown individual salmonid carcasses were found. Field surveyors were able to assign species to 305 of the total 1388 redds observed. After all unidentified redds were predicted to species likely to have built them, we estimated the total number of redds constructed across all reaches in the sample frame, expanded from the randomly sampled reaches to be 963 Chinook salmon, 705 coho salmon, and 82 steelhead. The spawning ground survey dd not encompass the entirety of the spawning period or space for Chinook in the Redwood Creek, and therefore the steelhead and Chinook redd abundance estimates herein should be considered to r period and area encompassed by the study. We estimated a total of 538 coho salmon, 151 Chinook salmon, 57 and steelhead redds Prairie Creek Life Cycle Monitoring sub basin."
