Presentation Summary from Workshop minutes: "Over 35 years of monitoring on Redwood Creek documents channel response to large flood events and land use. Studies in include hydrologic and sediment transport, channel form, stream temperature in Redwood Creek and changes in stream biota in tributaries. Channel aggradation generated during 25-year return interval floods has persisted in Redwood Creek for more than 30 years, and has impacted many life cycles of salmon. In lower Redwood Creek, pool frequencies and depths generally increased from 1977 to 1995, as did median residual water depths, but a 10-year flood in 1997 resulted in a moderate reversal of this trend. While the channel bed has returned to a probable pre-disturbance elevation in the upper reaches of Redwood Creek channel response in the lower most reaches channel response is tied to routing of channel stored sediment. In the lower river, channel aggradation peaked in the 1990’s, and the channel is still incising. Bed elevation is just one measure of channel recovery. For most of its length, the channel still remains wider than pre-1964 conditions, the channel lacks large wood, lack of large conifer trees in the riparian zones, and stream temperatures remain elevated."
