Forest canopy changes at Sleeping Bear Dunes NL were assessed using aerial photography and satellite imagery after a strong windstorm in August of 2016. This storm caused dramatic changes in the forest canopy in the central area of the park. An estimated 86% of the 335 potential damage polygons indicated by remote sensing were due to storm-related blowdown. The largest was a 108 acre area in the heavily damage Alligator Hill area.
