The N.C. Natural Heritage Program conducted a five-year annual monitoring study at many of the largest Hexastylis naniflora populations across its range. The monitoring data and comprehensive review of the species was reported to the US Fish and Wildlife Service in order to provide the information necessary for an objective assessment of whether or not federal de-listing is appropriate.
