Emerging Concern Among "Every Day Chemicals"

Great Lakes Network. 2017. Emerging Concern Among "Every Day Chemicals". NPS- GLKN

Contaminants of emerging concern (every day chemicals), such as estrogens, fragrances, plasticizers, stimulants and herbicides were examined in the waters of four Great Lakes parks from 2013 to 2015. With the exception of a few chemicals, detected levels were generally far below screening values or benchmarks at which human health can be affected. Exceptions in a few samples were the medications metformin and hydrochlorothiazide, and herbicides atrazine and simazine.
