Fire effects monitoring data collected at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. The data were collected during spring, summer, and fall field seasons from 2001 to 2016 by the fire effects monitoring crew based in Shenandoah National Park. Data include Composite Burn Index (CBI) plots (2002-2016) and Fire Monitoring Handbook (FMH) plots (2001-2016). Data collected from CBI plots include numerical severity rankings of fire effects upon overstory trees, intermediate trees, subcanopy, shrubs, herbs, fuels, and substrates. Photographs were taken from plot perimeter toward plot center to document fire effects. Data collected from 50 x 20 m forest plots include tree inventory to obtain density and basal area, fuel load using Brown's method for inventorying surface fuels and biomass, seedling density, as well as all shrub transect methods for 50 m transects. Data collected from shrub transects are 30 meter point intercept data to obtain relative and percent cover. Photographs were taken from each end of the transects to document change.
