The emerald ash borer (EAB, Agrilus planipennis) is an invasive wood‐boring beetle native to China and eastern Asia. EAB is responsible for the death and decline of tens of millions of ash (genus Fraxinus) trees in the United States and Canada, causing extensive environmental and economic damage throughout infested areas. The insect was in all probability introduced into North America sometime in the 1990s through shipping containers. It was first detected in Michigan and Onttario in 2002.
