This survey was funded by a fiscal year 2015 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (grant number P15AF00189) and a subgrant to the City of Mason City, Iowa (project number IA-15-047). The subgrant provided for conducting a survey and evaluation of the 100-acre Elmwood-St. Joseph Municipal Cemetery to determine if there is a potential historic district. The project examined mausoleums, monuments, and other markers, and graves of persons of transcendent importance, age, distinctive design features, and associations with historic events. Mason City, Iowa is a Certified Local Government.
