This survey was funded by a fiscal year 2015 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (grant number P15AF00189) and a subgrant to Council Bluffs, Iowa (project number IA-15-040). The subgrant provided for surveying and evaluating the historic resources in an area generally described as South 8th Street, but including portions of First Avenue, Second Avenue, Willow Avenue, South 7th Street and Seventh Avenue. This residential area includes the modest and more substantial houses of some of the city’s prominent residents from the past. The neighborhood includes good examples of French Second Empire, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Italian Renaissance and Prairie School architecture from circa 1890 to circa 1915. The survey report was issued as Technical Report 341 of the Office of the State Archaeologist of Iowa. Council Bluffs, Iowa is a Certified Local Government.
