The City of Toccoa Reconnaissance Historic Resource Survey project began May 2016 with a windshield survey. All roads in the city limits were covered to briefly evaluate potential resources for future surveys. Resources before 1980 were assessed egardless of integrity and condition. The gathered information has been briefly evaluated according to guidelines established by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. This final report describes the survey findings and provides recommendations for various future preservation activities. This survey evaluated an estimated three thousand six-hundred forty-one (3,641) resources within the city limits of the City of Toccoa, excluding the resources surveyed and evaluated in the Toccoa Main Street District (2015-2016) survey. This survey was funded by a 2015 Historic Preservation Fund Grant to the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (grant number P15AF00076) and a subgrant to the City of Toccoa, Georgia (project number GA-15-033). Funding provided for a city-wide historic resources survey, phase 1 of which focused on the Main Street District, as well as a reconnaissance survey of four additional areas in Toccoa. Toccoa, Georgia is a Certified Local Government.
