Historic Resource Survey, Phase 2, Central Business District, Old Westside and Northside Neighborhoods, Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia

DeStefano JL and History, Incorporated. 2016. Historic Resource Survey, Phase 2, Central Business District, Old Westside and Northside Neighborhoods, Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia. City of Albany, Georgia. Albany, Georgia

This historic resources report was conducted as part of an effort to identify and survey all properties 40 years or older located within a portion of the locally-designated Albany Historic District in Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia. The primary objectives of the intensive-level survey include the documentation and creation of an updated inventory of historic resources, the evaluation of potential National Register of Historic Places nominations (individual resources and historic districts), and recommendations for an updated contributing versus non-contributing status of each resource (both historic and non-historic) within the locally-designated Albany Historic District. The survey area includes 648 resources and 249 vacant parcels, 53 of which are parking lots. The survey area encompasses Albany's central business district ("downtown"), and the Old Westside and Old Northside neighborhoods. Appendix A includes a detailed inventory of the 648 resources (historic and non-historic) within the survey area. Vacant parcels and parking lots are provided on a separate inventory in Appendix D. (From introduction.) Funding was provided in part by a 2015 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Historic Preservation Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources (grant number P15AF00076) and a subgrant to the City of Albany, Georgia (project number GA-15-027).
