Common Bond Preservation; The Louis Berger Group, Inc.

Abstract: "At the behest of the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office of the South Dakota State Historical Society, Common Bond Preservation (CBP) and The Louis Berger Group, lnc. (LBG) completed a reconnaissance level architectural survey of Tripp County, South Dakota. The goal of the project was to update information and clarify eligibility on previously surveyed properties, and to gain an understanding of the nature of unsurveyed architectural resources throughout the county. Any property that appeared to be 40 years old and retained integrity was recorded on an Historic Sites Inventory Reconnaissance Form, and documented through site drawings and digital photography. At project completion, 353 resources were surveyed, including structures, cemeteries and one bridge. Surveyed properties consisted of both rural and urban resources, including schools, farmsteads, commercial buildings, churches, industrial/agricultural resources, and numerous residences. The majority of the resources date to the early and mid twentieth century and are vernacular in nature. The project team evaluated the integrity of these properties and identified potentially significant resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places." This survey was funded in part by a 2011 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the South Dakota State Historical Society (grant number 46-11-31948, project number SD-11-026).
