Phase 3 of the Harrisburg-West End Historic Resource Survey is the continuation of Phase land 2 completed in September of 2009 and September 2010 respectively. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, the Harrisburg-West End Historic District contains approximately 1,500 properties. Phase 3 is located in one large area bordered by Greene Street on the North, Eve Street on the East, Heckle Street on the South, and a jagged boundary along Metcalf Street, Heard Avenue and Gardner Street on the West. The completion of the Historic Resources Survey is a key tool for the revitalization of and reinvestment in Harrisburg-West End neighborhood. Historic Augusta listed the Harrisburg-West End neighborhood as an endangered property in 2008. Many organizations including the neighborhood association have begun to develop a comprehensive preservation plan for the neighborhood and ways to utilize preservation tools, such as reinvestment tax incentives, for revitalization to maintain the intrinsic value of this community.
