From abstract: "The area surveyed was the Sioux Falls Historic District, a 1974 National Register District, a mostly residential district of nineteen city blocks. There are a handful of commercial resources within the survey area, as well as the historic St. Joseph Cathedral and its associated buildings. The main purpose of the survey was to update information and clarify eligibility of properties. The project team was successful in determining that the District retains a high degree of integrity. While there ore small pockets of modern construction and neglected structures, the majority of the district is still in very good condition with historic architecture being highly prized and well treated. 67 percent of current resources, both primary and secondary, are considered contributing. This report was funded by a fiscal year 2009 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the South Dakota State Historical Society (grant number 46-09-21847, project number SD-09-026). It is the product of a survey of an area adjacent to the Sioux Falls Historic District known as the Pettigrew Heights neighborhood for primary and secondary structures.
