This statement was funded in part by a 2012 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the California State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 06-12-41911) and a subgrant to Monterey County (project number CA-12-038). Funding allowed for the county to contract with a consultant to develop a historic context statement for Pebble Beach. The historic context statement identifies the significant themes in the area’s historical development, identifies associated property types, including cultural landscapes, with their character defining features, and establisesh evaluation criteria and integrity thresholds for important property types sufficient to provide a framework for evaluating resources individually and as district contributors for the National, California, and local registration programs. A reconnaissance survey was conducted and informed the context development. Monterey County is a Certified Local Government.
