This statement was funded in part by a 2012 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the California State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 06-12-41911) and a subgrant to the City of San Luis Obispo, Calfornia (project number CA-12-035). Funding allowed for the city to contract with a consultant to develop a citywide historic context statement. The historic context statement identifies important themes relevant to the history and development of the built environment of San Luis Obispo. The context statement establishes periods of historical significance for each of the important themes, identifies important associated property types with their character defining and associative features, and establishes evaluation criteria and integrity thresholds sufficient to provide a framework for identifying and evaluating individual resources and historic districts for the National, California, and local registration programs. San Luis Obispo, California is a Certified Local Government.
