Species distributions, vegetation structure, and soil characteristics along a transect of increasing distance from the Pu`u Pua`i vent
Givnish TJ. Species distributions, vegetation structure, and soil characteristics along a transect of increasing distance from the Pu`u Pua`i vent. Research Permit and Reporting System
Vegetation composition was visually estimated at 20 intervals from nearly bare ground to intact forest with distance from the Pu`u Pua`i vent near the Devastation Trail at HAVO. Soils samples were collected and analyzed for texture. The expected decline in particle size – and thus increase in nutrient availability – due to aerial sorting occurred only over the first several stations.
