This preliminary survey of Scituate was conducted by the Rhode Island Historical Preservation Commission. Walter Nebiker, the survey's project manager, said in a letter held by the National Park Service that the survey "was conducted from rapidly conducted fieldwork, research based largely on readily available secondary sources and, in some instances, on information supplied by local residents familiar with the history of Scituate[.] The survey was designed to identify and collect information on resources of historical, architectural or archeological significance."
