On October 29, Chief Park Naturalist Robert Carpenter and Park Ranger William Ehorn conducted an investigation of the beaver in Warner Valley along Hot Springs Creek. Their objective was to determine the amount of damage, if any, and to estimate how many beaver habitate the area. No recent beaver activity was observed in the area of Hot Springs Creek below the Warner Valley Ranger station. More recent beaver activity and dams were present in the Drakesbad area, though at sufficient distance to not cause issues. It is estimated 200 trees were cut down or damaged by 2 to 3 families residing in the area for a total of 12 to 14 beavers. They do not recommend any action against the beaver and do not rank them as a threat to the facilities at present, however, a wire mesh is suggested around the base of aspen trees in the vicinity of the developed area.
