We proposed to conduct a survey for the Ipswich Sparrow on Assateague Island National Seashore during the winter of 2015-16. The Ipswich Sparrow is the only currently recognized subspecies of Savannah Sparrow, and breeds almost entirely on Sable Island about 120 miles off the coast of Nova Scotia. They carry "species at risk" status in Canada, but no special protections in the USA. The Ipswich Sparrow is a dune obligate species during the winter months.
