In 2016, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve partnered with over 23 scientists and 376 k-12 students, many first-time visitors to the park, to conduct species inventories of invertebrates. Students were teamed with experts to go out into the park, off-trail, to find, count, and record as many different invertebrate organisms as possible. 112 species were identified on May 7, 2016. The Louisiana State Arthropod Museum also collected species to identify in their lab at LSU.
