Comparison of Hard and Soft Release Techniques in a Founder Population of Western Pond Turtles (Actinemys marmorata)

Comparison of Hard and Soft Release Techniques in a Founder Population of Western Pond Turtles (Actinemys marmorata). Research Permit and Reporting System

This study compared the growth rates of soft and hard released individuals in a founder population of western pond turtles introduced into an urban lake in the Presidio of San Francisco, California. For approximately five months following release, turtles were recaptured using commercially available traps, and their morphometrics re-measured to determine growth rates. Growth rates between the soft and hard release treatment groups can then be compared statistically.
