Timber Rattlesnake Demography and Monitoring

Benedict LH. Timber Rattlesnake Demography and Monitoring. Research Permit and Reporting System

From 2 April to 2 November 2016 we visited Shenandoah National Park on 17 days (five by WHM, 14 by LHB, and two with both of us together). We saw 154 Timber Rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus) excluding newborns. Nine litters of newborns were seen on 22 August (exact count of newborns not made). Reproduction was higher than in 2015 but the anticipated high reproduction did not materialize. Ingress was delayed about 10 days in comparison with the average.
