The Shoreline Position Trend Report summarizes the results of surveys conducted from Spring 2007 through Spring 2012 at the ocean-facing shoreline of Fire Island National Seashore. Data sets include a spatial depiction of annual changes in shoreline position as well as statistical data describing annual and 5-year changes, all following the model presented by Psuty et al. (2010). Both the mean change for the entire ocean-facing shoreline and the linear trend in shoreline displacement are smaller than margins of error associated with data. Generally, the middle portion of Fire Island had greater variations in shoreline gains and losses during this period. The most mobile portions of shoreline are at either end of the island, particularly at Democrat Point where the shoreline downdrift of the jetty is extending westward. This is the first Trend Report for the Fire Island National Seashore produced for the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network in accordance with the protocol for shoreline position monitoring. It benefits from the outstanding cooperation in data gathering and report preparation contributed by members of the Fire Island National Seashore. This 5-year trend report is augmented by a more detailed seasonal and annual report covering the period between Spring 2011 - Spring 2012 as an appendix.
