ABSTRACT: Forty-three species in the genus Leptogium are recognized in North America. Seven new species (L. erectum, L. rugosum, L. hirsutum, L. contortum, L. milligranum, L. floridanum, and L. arsenei) are described and two new combinations (L. furfuraceum and L. isidiosellum) are made. The history, morphology, geographical distribution, and ecology of the genus are discussed. Keys are provided and photographs of 36 species and distribution maps for 20 species are given.
