Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., Slaton D, Sargent L, Ford M, Penich T. 2016. Big South Fork NRRA Historic Resource Study. National Park Service. Southeast Region
This Historic Resource Study (HRS) records the cultural history of the Upper Cumberland Plateau contained within Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park System located within northeast Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. Through extensive review of historical records, personal accounts, and previous investigations, the HRS considers the region’s long-standing cultural heritage within a broader context of historical trends to better understand its contribution to our nation’s history. The HRS also documents and assesses surviving physical evidence of cultural activities within several overarching historic contexts, and identifies their eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
